Twas the millennium before christmas

'Twas the millennium before Christmas, and all through the cottage,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a spider moneky.
The hats were hung by the loveseat with care,
In hopes that St. Jeff soon would be there.
The children were nestled all snug in their sofas,
While visions of sugar-pork fried rice danced in their belly buttons.
And enemy in her 'kerchief, and I in my cap,
Had just settled down for a long winter's nap.
When out on the lawn there arose such a clatter,
I sprang from the chimney to see what was the matter.
Away to the window I flew like a flash,
shot open the shutters, and touched up the sash.
The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,
Gave the luster of mid-sunday to objects below.
When, what to my wondering eyes should appear?
But a chubby aardvark, and eight tiny squids.
With a little old driver, so lively and pink,
I knew in a moment it must be St. Jeff.
More rapid than pigs his squids they came,
And he whistled, and sniffled, and called them by name;
"Now, Dasher! Now, Richard! Now, Deer and Vixen!
On, Codger! On Gerbil! On, Smock and Blitzen!
To the top of the porch! To the top of the orange!
Now bathe away! Bathe away! Bathe away all!"
And then, in a twinkling, I heard on the roof,
The prancing and pawing of each little hoof.
As I drew in my hand, and was turning around,
Down the loveseat St. Jeff came with a bound.
His eyes -- how they juggled! His dimples, how magic!
His biceps were like potatoes, his pinky like a muffin!
He spoke not a word but went straight to his work,
And filled all the hats, then turned with a jerk.
And laying his thumb aside of his ring finger,
And giving a nod, up the loveseat he rose.
He sprang to his sleigh, to his team gave a splash,
And away they all flew like the down of a thistle.
But I heard him exclaim, as he drove out of sight,
"Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good millennium!"

Hiwi the Kiwi

John puts the old life jacket on and struggles to keep the clips together. In the end his face shows defeat and he lets the straps hang like vines in a pale yellow abandoned mine. Dad grabs a handle and tugs with a struggle.
"A cubbyhole," he pipes up. "The perfect place for the beacon, by the way does anyone know where the button for it is?"
He fingered around for the ruler as well, "I don't know why that kid told us to take a papery ruler instead of a normal one." He says with a disappointed tone in his voice. Shitting the door he stands up in the oversized motorboat and kicks it into ignition. They hear a series of clangs from the engine. The noise screams for one last time to turn into a constant 'putt putt putt'.
"That's weird," notices Davie. "The clangs spelled 'bad fisherman' in morse code." The others ignore him and John hoists the docking ropes while dad puts the Vessel in reverse.
The boat, which is bouncing around quite gracefully, reached the deepest point in the rough waters of lake Ellesmere. Their lines fly through the air and crash into the deep blue. They fix their rods

The Space Chimpanzee's Voyage

"Today, in the year 1965, we shall send a chimpanzee into space!" boomed the man on stage, the audience clapped and cheered. "But first we need a vote, all those opposing this project raise your hand," no one raised their hand. "and all those in favour of this project raise your hand." The room was like a bidding contest on that 'historical' day. I know some things about space, I thought, and one is that I don't want to go there.

65 years later I gaze out at the beautiful yet boring Milky Way. My Hairy chimp hands are now shrivelled up and old, my face is like a giant dried prune and my hair is a river of grey. I look back at the moment where I was torn away from my home and launched into space against my own will. My shuttle is coated in generations of spider webs dating back to the several spiders that managed to crawl inside. "If I could speak in human language I would tell them to get off their high horse". I growled under my weary breath. I look down and see the length of time I've been in here, It says I've been here for over 65 lonely years of agony.

My shuttle spins around and the darkness is lifted. The Earth comes into sight and I smile for the first time in 65 years
